Welcome to the website of the rising Australian author Jane Bishop, me! This website is designed for you to be able to learn more about me and my values, as well as view the products I have published. I post a monthly blog which you can sign up to get a reminder about when it is published. You can find these to read below. I write about a variety of topics including what God is doing in my life spiritually, what I have been doing in the past month and a reflection on my thoughts, to give you a brief idea.
I hope you find this website refreshing and easy to navigate. If you would like to contact me with any questions or queries I would love to hear from you. Please use the contact form below and I will endeavour to respond to you swiftly. Alternatively, if you have a testimony from reading my book I would equally love to read how God has used this book to bless you. I get so encouraged knowing God is at work as I know that God has commissioned me as a writer to communicate his heart to you, even in romance novels. I look forward to hearing from you.
I have grown up in Victoria, Australia, as part of a loving Christian family of seven, with three older brothers and a younger sister. When I was just five years of age I gave my heart to Jesus and have never looked back. I had the experience of being home schooled from prep right through to grade six and I cherish that time as I believe this is the reason why I have such a strong and healthy faith today. During this time was when I first got in touch with my creative side. At the age of seven I completed me very first short story. It was a biography and probably the shortest one in history! But, as the years progressed so did my writing, having now produced one novel. In the future I have plans to make children’s books from the short stories I created during my childhood.
I went to a Christian high school where my English teacher encouraged my writing and even presented me with a brochure to enter a short story writing competition. Reviewing my work I made my selection and edited it slightly before submission. I didn’t get a prize but my story was published in a book compiled of all the entries from the competition. This was my first published piece of work.
Growing up, my family always made several trips a year to South Australia to visit family who live in the country, farming. It was during this time that I developed a fierce love for the open space and the freshness that the country lifestyle brings. Though I have always lived in the inner suburbs of Melbourne, my life is about to fulfil its heart’s desire of living in the country when I marry the man of my dreams come autumn 2017. This will then take me on a new adventure, to a new part of the country, New South Wales. God is always faithful to those who wait and now he is ticking two BIG boxes for me at once. I am blessed to be able to marry the man I love and begin my country life with him.
I have made a few trips overseas; the first one that got me started was in 2013. It took me to Thailand to visit some missionaries my church supports and I was with them for about a week. My next trip was a holiday to Singapore with my family. In 2015, I ventured across the globe to enter Europe for the first time. I was there for 11 days and loved every moment of it. I would love to go back there again to explore the European countries properly and immerse myself into the beautiful landscapes, history and architecture. It would be wonderful too to be able to dig into my family history and try to visit areas that my family migrated from.
My writing career officially began when I started writing my first novel, ‘My 180 Degree Turn’, when I was just 15 years old. It was completed by the time I turned 20 and the book launch followed on November 19th, 2011, just over 12 months later. It was a momentous occasion for me as the time had been so long in coming. To see the book finally printed and in my hand was a surreal moment. It is yet to hit the big Christian book stores, but I am confident that the book will reach the people it needs to. My prayer is that everyone who reads the book will be blessed in some way or another.
There are more books to come from me and I am very excited about the projects that await me. The next adventure requires digging into the history books and researching the early 1900’s. I have recently finished the first draft for this novel and am about to begin the editing stage. What drama will unfold? Who will be the characters? Where is the setting going to be? You’ll have to follow my blogs to keep up to date with my progress.
