Dear Readers,
It feels like a while since I last wrote to you and that so much has happening in between. It’s probably not so much the case that a lot has actually happened but more that I have just been caught up in the busyness of life. Birthdays, church, work, family; you name it and it’s most probably been on my schedule. But all of this keeps life interesting and the time ticking by.
This last month I am glad to say that I have been able to get stuck back into my writing. I have 20, or so, pages left to go on my first draft before I begin the easier process of typing in all my changes. The next step from there will be to reprint and begin the editing process again. Put like this it sounds like it would be an easy and relatively quick turn around of the check list but in actual fact this takes time as it has to fit into the rest of my daily life.
I have been thinking, and prompted to think of lately, of the challenge of writing a book with a deeper, more involved plot. I guess I would call myself a simple, predictable writer, who myself, doesn’t like unforeseeable twists and turns in a book. I like to read happy endings where good always prevails. I do not enjoy it when characters are killed in stories, especially when the writer makes them likable. The challenge for me is writing in a way that upholds my beliefs and standards, while creating a novel that is engaging for you, the reader, and keeps you turning the pages.
This is definitely achievable and could very well be a great adventure for me to undertake. However, for me to create such a book with great character substance and the intricate plot it would need, I would need to pre-plan a lot of it. It would require a lot of brainstorming to create and develop the characters and the timeline for the story.
Time has never been a resource that I have ever had much spare of, so I can see that this would be the greatest hurdle in producing such a novel. I hope though, that one day I will get the chance to write such a novel. One that will be enjoyed by many and talked about amongst friends. One that doesn’t just entertain the mind but challenges it’s thinking in today’s society.
So, what have you been dreaming about recently? Does there seem to be a pattern in what your mind drifts towards to think about? Is it a short dream that could come to pass in the next week if you wanted it to, or is it a longer dream, like mine, that my take a few years for you to get your head around to plan and execute? Whatever it is, you need to know that those dreams inside of you are there for a reason. You have been made for a reason and born into this world at this time to make a difference. Whether that looks like engineering a structure, teaching the next generation, learning for the life ahead of you, farming produce, supporting your family, entertaining a crowd, etc., you make a difference in your sphere of influence. You are special, unique and amazing, just the way God made and sees you.
I pray that during this month dreams are awakened within you. That there is an igniting inside which is rekindled or lit for the first time.
Don’t hesitate to let your dreams run wild sometimes, because after all, dreams don’t always make sense until there’s an interpretation.
God bless you heaps as you dream your way through March!
