Dear Readers,
With Christmas just over a week away I feel that I can truly say we are in the thick of the “silly season.” Shops are crowded and car parks are overflowing. Meanwhile, the weather is heating up as we continue to wrap presents and write Christmas cards.
So, what have I been learning this month? What has God been teaching me? It’s hard to articulate a specific thing or topic. Life has been extremely busy, to the extent that I have been living one day at a time, while trying to plan many others in advance.
I should share with you that Christmas for me and my husband will be back with my family this year. Because of this I am coordinating a lot of catch-ups while we are there, which has been an experience, to say the least. My brother is also getting married at the end of the month so I am helping him and his fiance with their preparations too.
Through it all I know God is present. It’s just that I don’t feel like I’m having as much intimate time with Him as I use to. Life takes on such a fast pace sometimes, it’s easy to lose perspective of the life God has given me. As much as married life is fulfilling, my husband cannot quench the spiritual area of my life. He can certainly encourage and inspire me, but I am the one who needs to get up and do something about it. I need to take the step to make the change.
I don’t know why it takes me so long to take that step though. I know what awaits me.
It will be a beautiful encounter with my Father, Saviour and Friend, all in one.
And yet, I find excuses to put that moment off, I get distracted by life around me. The worst part is that these distractions are all good, as I’m doing things for other people, helping them. But in reality it is taking away from my daddy/daughter time.
I didn’t know what to write to you about at the start of this letter but now, having written it, I can see what I’ve been learning, realising or shown. So thank you. Because of you, I write these letters and force myself to reflect to see what our Father has been doing in my life each month.
This year has definitely been a year of change for me with getting married. I’ve moved states, changed jobs and churches and learnt how to run a home, support my husband and ultimately enjoy his company every day. It has been a pleasure to have had you along for the journey this year. I hope you will join me for all the adventures that are awaiting to be had in 2018.
I pray you have a very blessed, happy and safe Christmas and New Year holiday. As we give our gifts to others this year I want to remind you of the ultimate gift that was given to you, the birth of Jesus Christ, God’s son.
John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Many blessings,
Jane Bishop
